Gin Basil Smash
Gin Basil Smash – Teichenné cocktail
Created by Jörg Meyer, from Le Lion in Hamburg, the Gin Basil Smash has fast become a phenomenon in Germany. In our recipe we change the lemon juice for kumquats, fruit originating in China. It has the bitter pulp and edible crust. The edible fruit closely resembles that of the orange, but it is much smaller, being approximately the size and shape of a large olive. Kumquat is a fairly cold-hardy citrus.
- 5cl Level Gin Premium
- 2cl sugar syrup
- 3 kumquats
- 4 basil leaves
Preparation of Gin Basil Smash: Add the basil and kumquats in the shaker and crush with a muddler. Then, add liquid sugar, gin and ice. Stir vigorously to cool and mix all ingredients. Strain and serve in a Old Fashioned glass.
Garnish: decorate with fresh basil.
